Colegiul de Industrie Alimentara "Elena Doamna" Food Industry College was founded in 1966 and trains students in the food industry domain, catering, tourism, natural resources and environment protection. At the moment, our school has upper secondary education, high school daily classes and professional classes. The total of the students is 950, most of them specializing in food industry (fields - bakery, pastry, dairy products and meat, fruits and vegetables, but also brewery).

This institution is provided with laboratories like: Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, and IT and also has workshops for practice sessions in: milk and meat processing, bakery, brewery and pastry, and gastronomy workshops. About 80 teachers are involved in the development of the students' practical abilities and knowledge. The school has also a modern library, a multimedia room, a festivity hall, a gym and a cafeteria where the students from our hostel have their meals every day. The region we live in is a very beautiful area because the city is placed near the Danube, but disadvantaged because of its high level of unemployment. In the same time it is a highly industrialised area and pollution has reached a worrying level.

The green spaces of the city are very few while Arcellor Mittal Steel, a steel factory that used to be the second largest of its kind in Europe, pollutes the environment a lot. Many of our students come from rural areas. The schools tries to get our students acquainted with the European values, to help them to better integrate professionally and socially and be active citizens of the EU, to appreciate more the importance of education and to help them enter the labor market with the required professional training. The economic situation of the area is also responsible for the high number of students that have parents working abroad. As a result to this, the students are left alone, the school becoming one of the few sources for education and the social support and guiding for their future career and their development as responsible beings that are aware of the importance of the environment's resources they have and the way they have to use them, preventing their disappearance or misuse.

Our aim is to make school a more welcoming place for children, but also for the teachers. Our school’s aim is to offer quality education to our students that graduate, according to the changes of our society, in order to have professional competences at European level that would allow them to choose the right path in life, to be responsible citizens and to be able to decide on their career. Our institution has the experience of writing and participating in European projects from 1998 up to present. As a reward to the good quality of all these activities, our school was certified and got the title of an European School in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2017.
